Welcome Home Comrie

I honestly didn’t believe the Oilers would sign Mike Comrie as he really doesn’t fill either of the holes they currently have at the forward position. The Oilers are in desperate need of a 1st line LW and a 3rd line physical center who can win face offs and kill penalties. While signing Comrie won’t fill those holes he does make the team better and gives new head coach Pat Quinn the ability to role 4 lines. Instead of have 3 scoring lines a checking line and an energy line the Oilers will go with 3 scoring lines an energy/checking line.
So where will Comrie fit?
It really depends on how everybody performs in training camp but I think the lines will look something like this:
- Comrie – Horcoff – Hemsky
- Cogliano – Gagner – Nilsson
- Penner – O’Sullivan – Pisani
- Moreau – Pouliot – Stortini
I think that Comrie and O’sullivan can easily be swapped here but I’ve put O’Sullivan on the 3rd line because I believe he has the edge as far as Defensive play and I assume he will be the center on the 2nd pk unit and it wouldn’t make sense to put him on the same line as Horcoff.
I find it really disturbing how many fans have under appreciated Robert Nilsson this off season and many even suggesting that the Oilers should put him on waivers. Nilsson remains one of the most talented young players on the team and while he had a troubling year last season how much of that was the result of playing for a coach who continuously threw him under the bus in the media. Nilsson has worked very hard this off season putting on 15 pounds and I fully expect him to be in the lineup when the season opens and I think he has a great opportunity playing for Pat Quinn to have a break out season this year.
