The Streak Continues

March 21st, 2009

With Edmonton’s shootout win in Chicago tonight they extend their winning streak to 3 games and put a little bit of breathing room between themselves and 9th place in the western conference. The Oilers have picked up points in 7 straight games and have only lost in regulation once in their last 10 games.

Dwayne Roloson continues to play a dominant role for this stretch run by the Oilers and with a win on Sunday could tie a career high with 27 wins. Not bad for a 39 year old eh? I would highy recommend however that MacT gives Roli a rest and start Jeff Deslauriers on Wednesday night when the Oilers face the Phoenix Coyotes in the 1st of back to back games.

Over the past 2 weeks or so I’ve thought that Sam Gagner has been one of the better Oilers and was playing as good as he did in last years stretch drive but after the past 2 games I must say he is much better. Last season Gagner was playing the finess setup guy but lately he’s been the goto guy, he has 4 goals in 2 games and has found a groove with Robert Nilsson and Ales Kotalik.

Speaking of Ales Kotalik he once again is the overtime hero as he now has 2 game winning shootout goals since the Oilers picked him up from the Buffalo Sabres on trade deadline day.

I’d like to just give Lowe and Tambellini a heads up… since you can’t trade anyone now and have nothing to do except maybe plan the draft I think you had better make a plan of how you are going to sign Denis Grebeshkov to a long term deal in the off season.  Grebeshkov is set to become a restricted free agent on July 1st and to be honest I think he may be the best Oilers blue liner during this winning streak.  After a slow start to the season he now has 32 points this season and is a team leading +10.

Go Oilers

The Voice.

P.S In the last 10 games the Calgary Flames have 8 points and the Edmonton Oilers have 14…. so…. who made better moves at the deadline?
