The Three Headed Monster
With the recent signing of Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers it appears that the Edmonton Oilers will be entering the season with 3 goaltenders. The 24 year old Drouin-Deslauriers signed a one way contract so Lowe will not send him to the AHL and risk losing him on waivers.
Now some might think that 3 Goalies is a good thing, it will give added motivation to perform as to stay away from the press box. But it wasn’t all that long ago that Edmonton was in a similiar situation and things didn’t work out so well. In the 2005-2006 season the Oilers had a 3 goalie rotation with Jussi Markkanen, Ty Conklin, and Michael Morrison, mind you the skill level this time around is considerably higher with Garon in position to take the Lions share of games and Roloson as the backup. This does however place the talented rookie in the press box which may not be an environment where he can grow skill and develope into an NHL calibre goalie. With all this in mind one has to beleive that Kevin Lowe is either actively shopping Roloson in an attempt to trade the veteran goalie or he has plan to evaluate the 3 goalies and make a move shortly into the season.
