Road Warriors

November 3rd, 2008

The Edmonton Oilers are back on a winning streak in large part to Ales Hemsky finally returning to form. Hemsky stated before the season that his goal is to be a point per game player and up until today had not really played very well but with the 2 goals and an assist against the Flyers he is on track with 2 goals, 9 assists in 11 games.  The Oilers beat the Flyers 5-4 to record wins in back to back games for the second time this season and begin their season high 7 game road trip with 2 wins.

This was great game for the media with Hemsky’s two hightlight real goals and the heavyweight matchup of the night between Steve Macintyre and Riley Cote. I don’t know if George Laraque watched the match but I would be willing to bet that big George has Feb 11th marked on his calender and he sweats a little everytime he thinks about it. Macintyre is a monster and may be able to contend for the NHL heavyweight title, but don’t take my word for it.. check this out:

Hemsky is an awesome player and certainly be the leader on the ice for the oil. The up and coming road trip will be a real test. With such a young team, it can be hard to shake off a sub par performance. A veteran player can better handle the highs and lows of a 82 game schedule. Time will tell and this road trip will be a true indicator. Macintyre knows his role as a tough guy and to make sure the smaller oilers are protected in case the opponent wants to take liberties with his teammates.

As for Macintyre and Laraque. It will happen in one of the 2 meetings between Edmonton and Montreal this year. But only once—because even Macintyre will not make the same mistake twice.

I cant wait for Macintyre to beat Laraque in Edmonton in front of all those former Laraque fans.. It will really put the iceing on the cake in a game dominated by the Oilers.
