Oilers Take A Bite Out Of The Big Apple.
Ales Hemsky scored in the shootout and rookie Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers stopped 3 shots in the shootout to give the Edmonton Oilers a 3-2 win over the New York Rangers and finish their seasons longest road trip with 4 wins and 3 loses. Fernando Pisani and Erik Cole scored in regulation for the Oilers and Deslauriers made 40 saves to record back to back victories and remain undefeated in his short NHL career with 3 wins.
Sheldon Souray once again had a strong game for the Oilers and I must say I am pleasantly surprised with his play to this point in the season. When the Oilers had signed Souray I must admit I was skeptical because of his horrible plus minus rating on Montreal and with the shoulder injury last season he was mediocre at best, but this season he is fully health and in my opinion the best player on the Oilers. He’s a big physical defensman with one of the hardest shots in the league, he knows when to jump into the play, when to step up for a big check and when to back off, he’s the key to the Oilers power play, one of the best players on the ice in 5 on 5 situations and the teams best penalty killer. Don’t take my word for it, take a look at the math:
Souray > Pronger
And for all you Hab fans:
Souray > Markov
But that’s enough stating the obvious, the real questions are: Who will start Thursday against Toronto? How long until Roloson is traded? and last but not least When will Sam Gagner score a goal?
